Website and enquiry terms

These terms apply to Barnet Subsidence, the website published at barnetsubsidence.co.uk, and to any enquiry you send through its form. The site is run by Barnet Subsidence. Reading the pages or using the form means you are content with what follows; if you are not, please do not use the site.

Why this website exists

Put briefly, this is what we do: subsidence We are the people who write the pages and forward the enquiry, and that is the whole of our part. We are not the specialist firm. Nobody from this site will visit your property, examine a crack, open up a drain, dig a trial hole, quote for repairs or carry out any work.

Who owns the words and pictures

You are welcome to read whatever you like here and to print a page out for your own use, perhaps to put a question to an insurer or to show somebody at home. The text, photographs, drawings, layout and the code behind the pages belong to Barnet Subsidence or to the people who licensed them to us. What you may not do is republish any of it, reproduce it in your own material, present our pages inside a frame on another site, harvest them by script or bot, or use any part of this site to mislead someone. If you want to quote something at length or reuse an image, ask us first through the contact page.

What these pages cannot tell you

General reading is all this is, and general reading has its limits: subsidence A page can set out how clay shrinks in a dry summer, how a leaking drain washes soil away, or why a mature tree close to a wall matters. It cannot say which of those, if any, is at work beneath your own building, because that takes somebody on site with the foundations, the drains, the soil and the history of the crack in front of them. Treat nothing here as a survey, a structural report, an insurance opinion or advice about your property, and do not let it stand in for an inspection.

When you fill in the form

The form is free to use, puts you under no obligation and creates no contract between you and us, since we are not selling you anything. Here is where what you send goes: Your enquiry, with the details you gave, is passed to one specialist firm covering the area you told us about, so that they can contact you about it. They use it only to answer your enquiry and to arrange any visit or work you agree with them, and from that point they are responsible for how they handle it. We do not pass your details to anyone else for their own use. Anything that follows, whether an inspection, a monitoring period, a quotation or actual repair work, is a matter between you and that firm, on their terms and at their prices. We are not a party to it. The specialist may pay us when we pass the enquiry on. You pay us nothing, and you are free to get quotes from anyone else. You remain completely free to approach other firms, get further quotations and take advice from anybody you choose, and we would encourage it on a job of this size.

Whose responsibility the work is

The firm that gets in touch answers for its own conduct from that point on: what it tells you the cause is, the inspection and any monitoring it carries out, the figures it quotes, the repairs it performs, and any guarantee, warranty or insurance-backed cover it offers. Its own terms, insurance and professional memberships are the ones that govern that relationship, and they are fair questions to put to the firm directly. If the work or the service disappoints you, raise it with the firm first, because they are the ones able to put it right. We would also like to know, through the contact page, since it tells us something we need to hear.

What we cannot promise about the pages

We take care over what goes up here and we correct errors when we find them or when somebody points one out. Even so, we do not promise that every statement is complete, current or right for your circumstances, and we do not promise that the site will be reachable at any particular moment. Pages may be rewritten, reorganised or taken down, and the whole site may be withdrawn, without notice to anybody.

What we can be held to

Publishing pages and passing an enquiry along is all we do, and so far as the law allows that is the measure of what we answer for. We are not liable for loss, expense or damage arising from your use of this site, from anything you relied on in it, from the site being unavailable, or from the conduct, advice, workmanship or charges of the firm that contacts you. Three things stand outside that limit: liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and anything else the law does not permit us to exclude. If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms takes away the rights the law gives you, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Where a page points elsewhere

Occasionally we link to a website that is not ours. We have no control over those sites, no hand in keeping them accurate and no responsibility for what they say or do with your information. A link is there because it looked useful at the time, and it is not a recommendation of the organisation behind it.

If this page is rewritten

These terms may be revised. The version displayed here at the time you use the site is the one that applies to that use, and a later revision does not reach back and alter the position on an enquiry you have already sent.

Governing law and where a dispute is heard

These terms, and any dispute about them or about this site, are governed by the law of the place where we are established, and the courts there have jurisdiction. If you are using the site as a consumer, that does not take away your right to bring proceedings in the courts of the country where you live.

If something goes wrong

A question about these terms, a page that reads oddly, or dissatisfaction with how an enquiry was dealt with: all of it should come to us through the contact page, with enough detail that we can look into it properly. We answer complaints ourselves and we do not pass them sideways. If you complain to us about how we have handled your personal information, we acknowledge it within 30 days and reply as soon as we can.
